As its name suggests, the MTA consists in holding the boomerang in the air for as long as possible by timing its flight: MTA means Maximum Time Aloft .

This competition takes place on a very large area of 50meter radius, just like an Aussie round field, and each thrower has 5 throws to achieve the highest time considering that only the longest time is taken into account.

Throwers are divided into equal groups and are positioned at the outer edge of the circle; each group is fitted with at least 3 timers.

Each player throws alternately.
The thrower is usually placed at the edge of the circle facing the wind. As soon as he throws, the timer starts, the player has the whole circle to catch his/her boomerang. He must catch it in the circle to validate the throw.

The average time of an MTA is generally between 25 and 40 seconds.

These boomerangs have a completely different path than other boomerangs and throwing them requires a minimum experience.

The thrower must throw his/her MTA very high and vertically, the boomerang will quickly go very high and then stabilize before declining slowly.

This is a very impressive event that requires maximum concentration and specific technical gesture. If it is hot and heavy, there can be thermals or hot air pumps. If your boomerang flies among these updrafts, it will stay much longer or even fly away in the sky
MTA boomerangs

The v-shaped: These are the most powerful, they are asymmetric boomerangs with a blade greater than the other and strongly dihedral tuned. They are generally used in very good weather conditions.

The 3-blade boomerang: The currently most effective form is the "PALM", an original three-blade boomerang larger than the others which blades are strongly curved.  This type of MTA boomerang is used in bad weather conditions and help ensure a result.

The materials used mustbe thinand rigid.

Bakelite was widely used because it is very stiff but a bit brittle; now high level throwers design ultra light and ultra-resistant carbon made boomerangs, which are also known for keeping their settings.
MTA flight is spectacular but requires a powerful and elaborated gesture.

Minipalm is a MTA bakelite 2mm thickness  boomerang smaller than the original model however, it flies very far nearly 50 meters rising up very high, an incredible path. Then it stabilizes to go down in chimney style . It is currently the MTA that I use in competition.              SEE THE FOLLOWING BELOW

MTA is in molded carbon very safe and really strong.Windsailor is a classical asymmetric MTA boomerang whose performance is well established, with this boomerang you can make a time from 30 seconds to 1 minute depending on weather conditions.
